Sunset Afro House is made for the hour the light goes orange and the floor stops pretending it is a club. Rolling, patient, percussive. The kind of set that works at 7pm on a terrace and at 3am in a basement. If you build around Black Coffee and Keinemusik, follow the deeper end through Da Capo and Culoe De Song, or lean on the harder South African edge of Themba and Enoo Napa, this pack was voiced for that floor. The log drum is the centre of it, because in this genre the log drum is the bassline. There are 96 of them: 48 melodic loops in all ten minor keys and 48 one shots across four registers, from E1 under the kick to E4 answering on top. Each one bends into its note the way the instrument actually does. Underneath sits the percussion, and this is where the genre lives. The triplet loops run three against the four — the polyrhythm that makes afro house move instead of march. Conga, bongo, woodblock and shaker, played by hand, interlocking rather than stacking. The melodic side is mallet-led: marimba, balafon with its gourd and buzzing membrane, kalimba, vibraphone. Real bar physics, not a sampled library run through a filter — a marimba bar is tuned so its second mode lands two octaves up, and that is why it has a clear pitch instead of a clang. The vocals are chants, not phrases: open vowels, diphthongs that move, a five-voice choir, humming. Sixty-six of them across loops and one shots, in three registers. They answer the groove and get out of the way. What makes all of it different is how it was made. Every sound is synthesised from scratch, not sampled. No re-licensed libraries, nothing to clear. That makes the pack original, and it means whatever you build with it is yours. It also means every decision was deliberate, and measurable. The sub basses keep 93% of their energy below 120 Hz, so they carry the room instead of crowding the mids. The top loops leave the kick alone: on the downbeats they sit 26 dB back, which is why they lock in under your kick instead of smearing it. Melodic content comes in all ten minor keys, so a log drum and a chant from the same pack agree. Levels are balanced the way a record is balanced, not normalised flat.
