Quietly recorded in our home studio with our beloved vintage Chappell acoustic upright piano, we draped a thin layer of fabric just in front of the strings to dampen the sound and produce an aural atmosphere both intimate and instantly universal. A stereo pair of condenser microphones were placed very close to the soundboard to capture the instrument’s every resonance as well as the subtle percussion of the piano’s hammers themselves, a technique adopted by composers such as Nils Frahm, Olafur Arnalds and Dustin O’Halloran.
